Last Friday was the Te Kowhai School harvest festival which I went along to and checked out, as well as judged some of the categories on the day before. To see the 2016 event make sure to click here.
It was held a lot earlier than previous years both on the time of the month and the time of the day.
When an event is a school one picking a date it can occur that doesn’t clash with anything else and making sure there is enough help to run your event smoothly is always of high priority, make sure to check out my FREE guide to running a giant pumpkin event for all sorts of tips and ideas about running your own giant pumpkin event.
The Results
There were a lot more pumpkins than I was expecting, especially this early in the year. A lot of places these pumpkins are grown are all on tank supply for the main water source at the property and I have to say everyone did really well.
The heaviest pumpkin was 119.5kg’s.
Te Kowhai School always impresses me with the creativity that goes into their creations.
Over the weekend, I was out of town but I know Tamahere school had their pumpkin night and the Kumeu A&P show was also on. If you have any photos or results from those events send them on in.
Thanks for checking out this post! I’ve been growing giant pumpkins for over 15 years, mostly in small spaces.
If you found this helpful and want to say thanks, you can buy me a coffee!
