Taupo Market Giant Pumpkin Competition

Another weekend gone and 2 more pumpkin events I managed to make my way to. This post is all about the Taupo Market giant pumpkin competition. The second one will be coming out very soon once I have sorted out photos and edited together some video.

The Taupo Market

Firstly the Taupo market itself is really good there was lots of things to see and spend money on, lots of hand made products that looked really good and good food. Make sure to check it out if you are in the area.

The Taupo Market giant pumpkin competition

The pumpkin competition at the Taupo Market is run my Marty’s Microgreens, Marty sells seedlings at the start of the season and then people can turn up at the market to enter. Marty sends through his events details to be included on the events page. If you have an event make sure to send in your details every year.

To be fair this event is in its very early stages and is about as bare-bones as you can get compared to any of the many other pumpkin events I have been to, but you know what? It doesn’t matter. I had a great talk with the organisers of the market and I’m sure next year will be bigger and better. I’m looking forward to how it is going to grow.

If you are wanting to run your own giant pumpkin event make sure to get your copy of the free guide.

For entries, there were only 12 seedlings sold at the start of the season, and at one point it almost looked like no one was going to show, but Richard made an appearance with his 25kg pumpkin.

There may have been a couple more entries turn up after I left so I can’t confirm 100% Richard was the only one.

If you’re in the Taupo area and want to grow a giant pumpkin next year, keep an eye out at the market, or contact Marty at Marty’s Microgreens around October.
